Nilanjan Dutta

Nilanjan Dutta, a Post-graduate in English from Jadavpur University, is a journalist based in Kolkata, India. He has worked with some of the foremost newspapers and periodicals in India, including The Times of India, Amrita Bazar Patrika and Sunday magazine since the 1980s and also contributed in journals such as Economic and Political Weekly and Frontier. Nilanjan is now a regular contributor to various print and web-based publications in India and abroad.

Both in and outside his profession, Nilanjan Dutta is better known as an activist. He has been involved in various social movements, particularly the civil liberties, environmental, anti-nuclear and peace movements. He has authored, co-authored and edited a number of books on related subjects and made a few documentary films as well. Having researched on various allied topics with fellowships from the SOAS, University of London, SARAI-CSDS and Calcutta Research Group, at present he is working on the history of civil liberties movement in India since the colonial period.
